Work Experience and Education
I am a fast learner and a hard worker, well-accustomed to being part of a team and working towards excellence. I love to read philosophical fiction and my favourite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I started surfing at age 9 under Shannon Ainslie and am still a dedicated wave rider to this day - I simply adore being near the sea. My good humour makes me easy to get along with, and my tenacity and positivity make me a valuable team member.
Distinctions (80%+) in English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Accounting, and Life Sciences (Biology).
Majored in microbiology and genetics.
South African Medical Research Council & Stellenbosch University
Juggling multiple work positions at once has bettered my communication, administration, and organisation skills. Working on psycho-epidemiological projects, I thoroughly cleaned data, quickly prepared figures and graphs, and efficiently managed administrative tasks.
Nappies On Main
I was hired as a sole salesperson and storefront manager for a baby shop in city centre Gqeberha. I conducted stock takes, made adverts and posters for social media, did marketing online and in person, and managed sales in store. I am great at customer service and quickly learned the stock and sales system in place at the store.
Assistant to a Junior Researcher at Stellenbosch University
In this temporary position, I worked as a personal assistant to a Junior Researcher at Stellenbosch University. While working remotely, I am responsible for daily communication with my employer, managing article submissions and monitoring project deadlines, while also conducting research into background literature and identifying gaps in existing literature. This work has honed my self-discipline and improved my online communication skills.
Nineteen33 (1 month); Something Good Roadhouse (6 months)
My first waitressing position over the summer holiday of 2021 was at an upscale speakeasy lounge/restaurant called Nineteen33. After two training shifts, I was added to the waitron roster (#FastLearner!). In December 2023, I worked at two restaurants (Hello It's Me and Something Good), during the busiest season of the year.
Waitressing taught me to work quickly, carry heavy trays without dropping glasses or spilling drinks, memorise menus and learn about different cuisines quickly, and refine my customer service skills. During my time as a waitress, I received compliments from management and guests on my quick service, happy smile, and intimate knowledge of the food and drinks. When it comes to service, I am quick to assist coworkers and excellent at predicting guests' needs.
Centre for Student Communities, Stellenbosch University (2 years)
In this front desk position, I handled bookings and queries for a study centre on campus. I worked with a team to ensure that the centre was clean, quiet, and well-organised, while managing my full-time studies. I improved my hospitality and administration skills through the work I did in this role. Hospitality, customer service, teamwork, and punctuality are all skills that I gained and refined in this role.
Sonop Dameskoshuis, Stellenbosch University (1 year 2 months)
I learned to work as a team of individuals; efficiently running a university hostel, managing admin, and addressing conflicts brought forward by members of the house. I worked as a leader of my sub-committees, an event planner, and a peer-mediator. These skills translate into other roles as good conflict-resolution, managerial, and leadership skills.
Z Sports, Lifesaving South Africa, and Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club (7 years)
I have worked part time as a Safety Officer for various organisations for many years. This work experience enabled me to work long hours, remain vigilant and energetic, and respond to situations with urgency. These skills translate into other roles as proactiveness, longevity, focus, and attention to detail.
